As part of the deployment process a several site surveys were conducted to ensure smooth implementation of the system.
SiteZone Safety used its national engineering network for the installation of the systems and during this process several regional training sessions were carried out. Additional training was also provided to FCC’s own training team, so they would be able to meet the company’s own training needs post deployment.
SiteZone Safety first met with FCC in late 2012. During 2013 trials took place at two FCC sites: one landfill and one waste transfer station.
The trials were successful but also identified scope for improvements to the system which would make it more suitable for deployment across the waste industry. The most significant of these was the development of the ‘limiter technology.’
FCC decided to move forward with the deployment of SiteZone proximity warning systems across its network of site operations.
FCC operates a large national network of varied sites and vehicles, including Transfer Stations, Material Recycling Facilities (MRFs), Landfills and Energy from Waste sites (EfWs).
The majority and 150 vehicles at most of the 50 sites had SiteZone systems installed and in full use for a six-month period.
During the implementation process we realised that to optimise the system’s performance in certain applications and areas, an additional sensor was required. This would allow for the creation of a different zone shape on loading shovels. A sensor would be required that could be positioned much closer to the end of the working equipment of a machine. This led to the development of the BucketZone sensor which has now been more widely deployed both on FCC sites and those of other clients.
Since the initial deployment of the SiteZone system, a service and inspection regime has been implemented by the SiteZone Safety Engineering team to inspect all the SiteZone equipment. Any system faults or breakdowns are covered under the service level agreement.
